Satellite-to-Mobile (Direct-to-Device)
Ordinary phones talking to satellites for messaging, emergency access and coverage beyond the mobile network.

Direct-to-device (D2D) services let a compatible phone use a satellite where there is no mobile coverage, without a dish or special terminal. Services today centre on messaging, emergency access and light data. In Uganda, Airtel Uganda launched Starlink satellite-to-mobile service for compatible phones on 24 September 2026.
What this covers: Satellite SMS, Emergency messaging, Basic data, Voice (where offered), Coverage extension for mobile networks, IoT.
Typical uses: Remote-area connectivity, Travellers and field staff, Emergency contact outside coverage, Mobile operators extending coverage, IoT sensors.
Providers in this segment include Starlink, AST SpaceMobile, Globalstar, Lynk Global, Sateliot, Skylo, Iridium.
Othee Technologies is an authorized Starlink installation partner in Uganda. For other providers we design, quote and manage the solution and arrange service with the provider or its authorised distributor; availability, licensing and coverage vary by country.
